The Congress has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party of enabling the rise of illegal activities in the state.

The opposition party’s leader in the Gujarat Assembly, Amit Chavda on July 30 claimed that the state had turned into a “landing, manufacturing, and trading hub” for drugs under the “soft” BJP government.

He alleged that one of the accused in a recent drug case has ties to Gujarat’s Minister of State (MoS) for Home, Harsh Sanghavi.

“The voters are asking if the state will get a firm chief minister, or if it will continue down the path of hooliganism and corruption to become ‘Udta Gujarat’ with the blessings of the soft BJP government. The current state of affairs does not bode well for the youth and coming generations,” Chavda told reporters.

Pointing to drug seizures worth crores at the state’s ports, the Congress leader said this was proof that Gujarat had become a “landing hub” for narcotics. He then referred to recent drug busts to highlight the issue of manufacture and sale of these illegal substances across the state.

“Everyone — from bhajiya vendors to ice cream vendors — are selling drugs in Gujarat,” he said, referring to two recent cases in Surat.

“A drug peddler wishes the MoS Home on his birthday on social media and gets a reply from the minister’s official handle. This clearly shows the nexus between peddlers and the government. No wonder they don’t care that the younger generation is getting ruined,” he claimed.

The Congress leader also raised concerns about other criminal activities, implicating BJP leaders in a rape case and liquor smuggling operations.

Apart from this, Amit Chavda also alleged the involvement of BJP leaders in the rape of a college girl in Rajkot and said that a state-level leader of the BJP came to the hospital and committed crimes. On the issue of liquor, he said that a BJP leader named Jayesh Bhavsar in Ahmedabad runs a network of smuggling liquor from other states into Gujarat, and on the other hand, the son of another BJP leader cheated the public and sold the vehicles saying that the BJP wanted vehicles for campaign purposes during the Lok Sabha elections. Complaints have been received that liquor and meat are being smuggled in vehicles that are being pawned, but no action is being taken against it, it clearly means that whatever is going wrong in Gujarat, it is coming out that BJP’s Kesario people are involved in it all.
