rs 10 cr stretch of national highway stretch passing through Bharuch washed away in first rain

A stretch of National Highway 64 in Amod taluka of Gujarat’s Bharuch district, constructed just a year ago at a cost of ₹10 crore, has been washed away in the very first rainfall.

The bitumen and gravel used for the road have eroded to the sides, sparking allegations of corruption in the road construction. With large potholes now forming on the road during the monsoon, commuters are facing a serious risk of accidents.

Even as reports of a scam in the Amod-Jambusar region’s MGNREGA scheme surface, several developmental works in the area appear to have been carried out with gross negligence.

The road on NH-64, especially the three-kilometre stretch, is in a severely dilapidated condition. Despite the road being built at a high cost, serious questions are being raised about the performance of the contractor company, Sun Sign Private Limited, managed by Sunil Baher.

With crores spent and the road now washed away due to rainwater, local residents and drivers have expressed intense anger. Questions are also being raised about whether the Road and Buildings Department or the National Highways Authority of India conducted any quality control checks on the construction material or the road.
