Blazing Tyre Warehouse Covers Sarkhej Sky in Black Smoke as Fire Brigade Rushes Six Tenders

A massive fire erupted inside a tyre godown at India Estate near Sarkhej-Sanand Crossroads on Wednesday afternoon, filling the skies over western Ahmedabad with thick black smoke and triggering a major emergency response.

The emergency call came in at roughly 4:32 pm on August 19, pinpointing a tyre storage unit tucked away in a commercial lane near Relief Hotel. Within minutes of the alarm, the Ahmedabad Fire and Emergency Services (AFES) mobilized units alongside local police to secure the industrial pocket.

Heavy Smoke Escalates Panic Across Industrial Zone

Due to the heavy concentration of rubber products stored on site, the blaze caught rapidly and spewed dense clouds of dark smoke that could be seen from kilometers away. The sight sparked immediate concern among workers in neighboring industrial plots, who scrambled outside as sirens echoed along the busy Sarkhej-Sanand corridor.

AFES officials diverted equipment from across the city to manage the high-risk situation. Fire tenders dispatched from stations in Prahladnagar, Bopal, Bodakdev, and Thaltej quickly arrived on scene. Crews also deployed a specialized Prahladnagar mini tender along with heavy-duty 'Gajaraj' emergency response vehicles to tackle the core of the flames.

Emergency Teams Fight to Contain Rubber Fire

Local police officers cordoned off the lane leading to the warehouse, pushing back crowds and clearing access routes for incoming water tankers.

Firefighting teams focused their primary line of attack on containing the perimeter. Burning rubber presents severe hazards, generating intense heat and chemical-heavy fumes that can easily ignite neighboring units if left unchecked. Firefighters dragged hoses deep into the smoky compound to isolate the burning material before it could breach adjoining structures.

Authorities have not yet identified what sparked the blaze. No casualties have been confirmed so far, and fire officials expect to estimate the total property damage once cooling operations conclude.
