₹1 cr rent outstanding of Happy Street vendors, AMC issues notice

Updated: Mar 5th, 2024

In Ahmedabad’s heart, a street hums with shoppers and foodies. ‘Law Garden’ is Amdavadi’s go-to street shopping, food joints, and lively Happy Street beckons with its food trucks—the perfect post-shopping pitstop.

However, food truck vendors on Happy Street have been given notice, as out of the total 22 licensees, 15 have not deposited a total rent of ₹1 cr for the last six months.

AMC’s alarm to Happy Street licensees

The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has issued a notice to the licensees to deposit the outstanding rent amount within a week.

If the licensees or vendors neglect the notice, they will not be allowed to carry out their business on the Happy Street premises, followed by legal action.

The municipal corporation’s estate and town planning committee chairperson, Pritesh Mehta, said that after the auction, some licensees are refusing to deposit the rent decided by the municipal corporation, citing the pandemic period.

“A long time has passed since that period was over. Due to this, notices have been issued by the estate department to the licensees who are not paying the rent. If the licensee does not deposit the outstanding rent amount within a week, they will not be allowed to stay on Happy Street,” said Mehta.
