An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) attached to the Railway Protection Force (RPF) has lodged a police complaint alleging that he and his family members were assaulted by the chairman of their housing society in Ahmedabad’s Chandkheda area following a dispute over water usage in the society.
According to the Sabarmati police, Harisingh Badri Prasad Meena, 59, alleged that the accused verbally abused and physically assaulted him outside his residence on Thursday evening.
Police said the incident took place on May 14 around 7.45 pm in Shiv Darshan Society near Uma Bhavani Society on Tragad Road in Chandkheda.
Meena resides in the society with his family and serves as an ASI at the Sabarmati Railway RPF police station.
According to police, tensions had been brewing within the society over allegations that certain residents were using private water motors, allegedly affecting the water supply to upper-floor tanks. The matter had reportedly been discussed for several days in the society’s WhatsApp group.
The complainant alleged that during the discussion, his son had suggested increasing maintenance charges for residents using private motors to draw water.
Meena stated that on Thursday evening, while he was heading out of his house and had reached near the residence of the society chairman, the accused, identified as Kautilya Kiritbhai Makwana, allegedly approached him while talking on the phone and began hurling abuses.
He further alleged that the accused assaulted Meena with a stick-like object, causing him to fall to the ground, and continued the assault thereafter.
The complainant also alleged that when his wife, Bimla Meena, and daughter, Ravina Meena, intervened to rescue him, the accused grabbed his daughter by the collar and pushed her, while his wife was also pushed to the ground.
According to the complaint, nearby residents intervened and prevented further assault. Meena subsequently contacted the police emergency helpline by dialling 112.
Police said the accused allegedly fled the scene before officers arrived.
A case has been registered against the accused and further investigation is on.
