Updated: Aug 23rd, 2023
Four people have been detained in connection with a recruitment scam in Rajkot over Lok Rakshak Dal (LRD) posts.
The detainees include Pradeep Makwana, his father Bharat Makwana, Bhavesh Chavda, and Bala Chavda. The FIR was filed and the investigation has been set off.
Pradeep Makwana, who had a call letter for the recruitment on Aug 19, hadn't even appeared for the exam taken for LRD recruitment 2021, revealed the investigation. It also revealed that 29 such fake call letters were manufactured by the scammers.
If the sources are to be believed, Rajkot was the epicentre of the scam, where bogus call letters were manufactured for the 2021 LRD recruitment. The scam, however, fell flat when it got to the stage of document verification.
The call letters were suspicious
Pradeep Makwana had appeared with a bogus call letter on Aug 19, however, the authorities were speculative about the authenticity of the letter.
Owing to that, police were informed about the matter, and the scam was revealed. When Makwana's documents were getting verified, the call letter was found to be fake. In fact, the call letter belonged to another chosen candidate, Mehul Tarbundia.
Fake call letter that cost ₹4 lakh
In the investigation of the Crime Branch, it came to light that a man named Bhavesh Chavda was involved in manufacturing the fake call letters. Even though Chavda was related to Makwana, the former had asked for ₹4 lakh from his nephew, Makwana.
Chavda promised Makwana a call letter for LRD recruitment, and even had a woman call Makwana regarding the call letter. The fake call letter was sent by Bhavesh Chavda to Pradeep Makwana through the post.
The police are probing the matter further.
