Rain wreaks havoc in Gujarat with 18 deaths, orange alert for 12 districts

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in Bharuch, Surat, Dang, Navsari, Valsad, Tapi, Daman, Dadra & Nagar Haveli, Porbandar, Junagadh, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Gir Somnath, and Diu on Thursday, issuing an orange alert for the regions.

On Wednesday, very heavy rainfall was witnessed in districts of Saurashtra including Surendranagar, Botad, Jamnagar and Bhavnagar.
Moreover, heavy rainfall was reported in Banaskantha, Anand and Kutch on Wednesday.
Continuous rainfall over the past several days has resulted in the deaths of 18 people across the state in the last two days due to lightning strikes, cyclonic winds, and other weather-related causes.
In response to the situation, 12 teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been deployed across various districts, while the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams have been stationed in 20 districts. Meanwhile, a red alert for heavy rainfall was issued for eight districts, including Ahmedabad, on Tuesday.
On Tuesday, rainfall was recorded in 208 talukas. The highest rainfall was recorded in Barwala of Botad district, which received 7.5 inches of rain. In Sayla of Surendranagar district, 6.5 inches of rainfall was recorded, including 4 inches between 12 noon and 2 pm.
