Public schools once again popular as inflation hits families
With the increasing cost of education in private schools, a new trend of parents enrolling their children in public schools has emerged.
For the academic year 2024-25, the enrollment numbers for Balvatika and Class 1 paint a picture where more and more parents are eager to get their children into government-run schools in Ahmedabad.
In Balvatika, the eligible students amount to 9,231, consisting of 4,683 boys and 4,548 girls. The number of eligible students stands at 750 for English medium; for Hindi medium, it is 1,040; and for Urdu, it is 926.
The eligible students for Class 1 would be around 20,130, consisting of 9,929 boys and 10,201 girls. The number of eligible students stands at 1,774 for English medium; for Hindi medium, it is 2,935; and for Urdu, it is 1,585.
In a record-setting enrollment, the total number of eligible students for admission in June 2024 will be around 29,000, which is a significant hike of 5,500 from last year.
In the last 10 years a total of 55,603 students have enrolled for public schools in Ahmedabad.
Notably, there are 439 public schools run by Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC), providing education to 1.66 lakh students in Gujarati, Hindi, English, Urdu, and Marathi medium, with a staff of 4,600 teachers.
81 of them are ‘smart schools’ and 217 are the ‘school of excellence’.
