What is spring equinox?
The spring equinox, also known as the vernal equinox, occurs when the Sun crosses the celestial equator from south to north, marking the beginning of spring.
This event happens annually around March 19, 20, or 21. On this day, Earth’s axis is not tilted toward or away from the Sun, resulting in nearly equal daylight and darkness across the globe. In the Northern Hemisphere, it signals the start of spring, while in the Southern Hemisphere, it marks the beginning of autumn.
Equinox is witnessed on Earth twice a year – March and September, where daytime and nighttime are of approximately equal duration all over the planet.
