In a tragic incident, a second-year BTech (bachelor of technology) student at Pandit Deendayal Energy University (PDEU) committed suicide by jumping from the hostel terrace on Mar 25.
Payal Gupte, a 20-year-old from Aurangabad, Maharashtra, was in the PDEU hostel while other students had gone for Holi festivities vacation.
On Mar 25, Gupte had a phone call with her mother in the wee hours of the day. The same day, she jumped off from the terrace of the girls’ hostel injuring herself severely.
Security personnel and other employees of the hostel rushed her to a nearby hospital for immediate treatment but was declared dead by the doctor on duty.
Infocity police investigation
The Infocity police reached the spot and registered the death and sent her body to Gandhinagar Civil Hospital for post-mortem.
The police found a note written in English by Gupte while searching her hostel room.
However, a preliminary investigation by the police revealed that on the night of Mar 24, she called her father and talked about being mentally disturbed.
In her letter, she also concluded that she doesn’t like how she looks and vaguely mentioned her wish to be born as a ‘stone’ in her next life.
As per media reports, police have found notes in her diary as well which suggested that she was depressed.
