Officers of the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport (SVPI) seized 6.540 kilograms of marijuana from an Indian passenger who arrived from Bangkok on a Thai Airways flight during the intervening night of May 16 and 17.

According to officials, the passenger landed in Ahmedabad on Thai Airways International Flight TG-343 from Bangkok and was intercepted based on specific intelligence inputs and passenger profiling.

During the search of the passenger’s baggage, AIU officers found six vacuum-sealed packets containing a green dried plant-like substance concealed inside a trolley bag. Preliminary testing confirmed the substance to be marijuana.

The total seized contraband weighed 6.540 kg and was confiscated under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.

Officials confirmed that the passenger has been arrested under the NDPS Act, while further investigation into the smuggling network and source of the narcotics is currently underway.
