Parking dispute turns fatal in Ahmedabad’s Madhupura Market; four booked

A 26-year-old labourer was allegedly beaten to death in broad daylight at Ahmedabad’s bustling Madhupura Market following a dispute over two-wheeler parking, with police booking four men for murder after the victim succumbed to grievous head injuries at the scene.

The incident took place between 12.30 pm and 1 pm on May 3 near Shop No. I-28 in Madhupura Market, close to the old police commissioner’s office in Shahibaug.

The deceased has been identified as Mithilesh alias Munna Mishra (26), a native of Uttar Pradesh who had been working as a casual labourer in the market for several years.

As per the FIR lodged by his brother Sandeep Nirbhayram Mishra (29), the accused identified as Indrajit Kumar Upendraprasad Patel, Akash Kunwar Mahto Patel, Akash Raut, and Laliprasad Shivkumar Prasad, allegedly attacked Mithilesh after an argument broke out over the parking of a two-wheeler.

Police said the quarrel escalated rapidly, following which the four accused allegedly assaulted Mishra with pipes, iron rods, a tommy bar, hammer-like weapons and a leather belt, inflicting repeated blows on his head and body.

In his complaint, Sandeep stated that he was near the gate of Madhupura Market when he noticed a 108 ambulance arriving at the market premises. On reaching the spot, he found his younger brother lying unconscious on the road with blood oozing from beneath his head.

The attending medical personnel examined Mithilesh and declared him dead on the spot.

Witnesses present at the scene, allegedly informed the complainant that the four accused had carried out the assault following the parking-related dispute.

Police said the accused were known to the victim and regularly visited Madhupura Market, where some of them were associated with transport and loading work.

A case has been registered at Madhupura Police Station under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including murder, rioting and unlawful assembly.

Police are reviewing CCTV footage from the market area and recording statements of witnesses and security personnel present at the scene.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the crowded commercial market, where traders and labourers said parking disputes and congestion frequently lead to confrontations, though rarely of such fatal intensity.
