Parents seek clarity over Seventh Day School’s registration status amid fresh admission concerns
Confusion and concern have gripped parents of students at Seventh Day Adventist School in Ahmedabad after the school’s administration, which had earlier been taken over by education authorities following the death of a student, was reportedly handed back to the institution on a temporary basis ahead of the new academic session.
The development has triggered anxiety among parents over the school’s registration status, with many questioning whether admissions should proceed amid fears that the institution’s registration could still be cancelled.
Members of the Vali Janakrosh Sangharsh Samiti, a parents’ action committee, approached school authorities seeking clarity on the matter and demanding written assurances that the school’s registration would not be revoked after parents pay substantial admission fees.
Parents said the uncertainty had placed families of prospective students in a difficult position, as they risk losing significant sums in fees if the school later faces regulatory action.
“We want assurance that admissions are being granted only if there is no possibility of the registration being cancelled,” one parent associated with the committee said.
The District Education Officer (DEO) had earlier taken over the school’s administration following the death of a student in a case that had drawn scrutiny of the institution’s functioning. However, with the commencement of the new academic session approaching, the school’s day-to-day administration has now reportedly been returned to the management on an interim basis.
Responding to the concerns, school spokesperson Varli Chauhan said the management had met the parents’ committee and was working in the interest of students.
“The parents’ committee came to present their concerns. We work for the students and children. Their safety is our primary responsibility,” Chauhan said.
However, when questioned by the media regarding documentary proof or official papers relating to the school’s regulatory status, the spokesperson reportedly did not provide a clear response.
Parents have urged the authorities and school management to issue formal clarification regarding the institution’s recognition and registration before the admission process advances further.
The matter is expected to remain under scrutiny as the new academic session begins and parents await a definitive position from education authorities.
