Over 10,000 vehicles fined for illegal parking, AMC collects ₹2.5 cr from violators
More than 10,000 vehicle owners in Ahmedabad have been fined for illegal parking in the last four months. A total fine of ₹2.57 crore was collected from the violators in the city’s seven zones. The highest fines amounting to ₹82 lakh were collected from the North-West Zone. As many as 10,598 vehicles were fined during this period.
Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC);s Estate Department is issuing fines and also removing illegal encroachments from roads. Till April 25 this year, officials removed 6,887 larries from encroachments and garbage piles from different parts of the city. They also took down around 25,089 illegal hoardings and banners.
This action comes after Gujarat High Court asked the municipal commissioner to show at least one road in Ahmedabad that is completely free from encroachment. A review meeting was held on Wednesday by the municipal commissioner with officers from all seven zones. They were instructed to take strict action and keep roads clear.
However, despite these efforts, larries and garbage piles have returned at some places, raising questions about the effectiveness of the action.
