An assistant professor from Ahmedabad has lodged a complaint with the Khadia police alleging sustained physical and mental harassment, dowry demands and domestic abuse by her husband and in-laws over the course of her marriage.

According to police, the complainant, a 28-year-old assistant professor employed at New LG University in Ahmedabad, accused her husband Tejas Solanki, along with her mother-in-law Manjulben, elder sister-in-law Pallaviben and brother-in-law Jatin Raizada, of repeatedly subjecting her to cruelty and demanding dowry.

Police said the woman, stated in her complaint that she had first met her husband through Instagram in 2023, following which the two entered into a relationship and solemnised a court marriage in April 2024. The couple later underwent a traditional Hindu marriage ceremony in January 2025 with the consent of both families.

The complainant alleged that the relationship deteriorated within a month of marriage, claiming that her husband frequently sought money from her and became violent when questioned about his employment and finances. She further alleged that her mother-in-law routinely sided with him during disputes, while other relatives also participated in harassing her.

The woman stated that after the couple moved to a rented accommodation in Gandhinagar in June 2025, her husband was arrested in connection with another criminal case in Surat, and was subsequently released with the help of her and her father.

Following the incident, she alleged that her in-laws summoned the couple back to their residence in Ghatlodia and demanded that she bring 20 tolas of gold from her parental home as dowry, claiming that insufficient gold had been given at the time of marriage.

She stated that the continued abuse forced her to leave the matrimonial home and return to her parental house on March 5 this year.

Khadia police have registered an FIR under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Police said further investigation into the matter is underway.
