Mumbai man impersonating railway TTE held at Sabarmati station for allegedly extorting passengers

A 26-year-old man was arrested by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) at Sabarmati Railway Station for allegedly impersonating a Travelling Ticket Examiner (TTE) and collecting money from passengers while dressed in a fake railway uniform.
According to Sabarmati railway police , the accused was identified as Mukesh Lakaram Mali, originally from Rajasthan and currently residing in Goregaon East, Mumbai.
Police said the accused was apprehended on May 14 around 5 am near the Station Master’s office on Platform No 1 of Sabarmati railway station following a tip-off received by RPF personnel on duty.
The complaint was lodged by Chetan Kumar Prajapat, 31, an RPF officer posted at Sabarmati Railway Station.
As per police official, the RPF personnel, noticed a suspicious man dressed in a white shirt and black trousers near the platform area.
During questioning, the man allegedly identified himself as a TTE. However, when officials asked him to produce a valid government identity card, he reportedly failed to do so.
Police stated that the accused was subsequently brought to the RPF station for further questioning, where he allegedly admitted that he was not employed by the Railways.
According to investigators, the accused had allegedly been posing as a TTE and collecting money from passengers by falsely presenting himself as an authorised railway official.
The accused was wearing a TTE-style uniform and carrying a fake identity card at the time of his detention.
A case has been registered against the accused under Sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita pertaining to impersonation and fraudulent representation.
