Morbi bridge tragedy: SC grants conditional bail to Oreva Group’s Jaysukh Patel

Jaysukh Patel, managing director of Oreva Group has been granted conditional bail from the Supreme Court today.

Patel was arrested in the case of the Morbi bridge collapse which took place in October 2022 when a bridge on the Machchhu River in Morbi collapsed killing at least 135 people including children and injuring 56 others.

Earlier in December 2023, the Gujarat High Court had rejected the bail 

application of Patel, the main accused in the Morbi suspension bridge collapse tragedy. 

Patel has served a 400-day jail period.

Two years ago on the evening of Oct 30, 2022, a suspension bridge suddenly collapsed in Morbi, killing 135 people. In this case, the police lodged a complaint and arrested a total of nine people.

Two managers of Oreva Group were also arrested in this case and the main accused Jaysukh Patel was absconding for several days.

However, Patel surrendered in court in February 2023.
