Mob vandalies truck with buffalo waste after rumours of beef transport in Ahmedabad’s Nana Chiloda

Tension gripped Ahmedabad’s Nana Chiloda area late on Wednesday night after a truck was vandalised by a mob following rumours that it was transporting beef, police said.

According to the police, a large crowd gathered after word spread that the vehicle was carrying cow meat. The truck was subsequently attacked and extensively damaged before officers arrived at the scene.

A heavy police deployment was rushed to the spot, and the situation was brought under control by the Naroda police.

Ahmedabad Police said that samples of the meat being transported were examined by experts, who determined that it was not beef. Police stated that the consignment comprised waste parts of a buffalo, not cow meat.

Naroda Police Inspector C V Nayak said legal action was being initiated in connection with the assault and vandalism.

“As soon as the matter was reported, Naroda police reached the spot and controlled the situation. Experts examined the meat and found that it was not beef but waste parts of a buffalo. We are in the process of registering an FIR and will take action against those involved in the vandalism,” Nayak said.

Police added that investigators are examining CCTV footage and videos from the scene to identify those involved in the attack on the truck.

Minor injuries were reported in the incident to the driver and cleaner of the truck.
