Man stabbed to death following dispute after wedding function in Gujarat's Sanathal village

A 31-year-old man was allegedly stabbed to death following a dispute that began after a wedding function in Sanathal village under Changodar Police Station limits on Sunday night, police said.

The deceased was identified as Devendrasinh BharatSinh Chauhan, also known as 'Jiga' Chauhan, a resident of Sanathal village in Ahmedabad district.

According to police officials, the incident took place around 8 pm on May 10 in the Mota Faliya Thakorvas area of Sanathal village.

Investigators said the dispute reportedly originated earlier in the day when the deceased and the accused had attended a wedding ceremony in Santej village. During the function, Devendrasinh allegedly asked the accused, identified as Chehar Babubhai Thakor, to drop him near his vehicle, which was parked at some distance from the venue.

Police said the accused allegedly refused, following which the deceased is believed to have harboured resentment over the matter. After returning to Sanathal village from the wedding function, an argument allegedly broke out at the accused’s residence.

During the altercation, the accused allegedly attacked Devendrasinh Chauhan with a knife, inflicting fatal injuries. He was rushed for medical assistance but succumbed to his injuries, officials said.

Police said the accused persons involved in the case have been detained and further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact sequence of events leading to the murder.

Senior police officials remained deployed in the village as a precautionary measure following the incident. Authorities said the situation in Sanathal village remained peaceful and under control, with adequate police presence maintained in the area to prevent any untoward incident.

A case of murder has been registered at Changodar police station, and further investigation is in progress.
