A man was killed after being run over by a train while attempting to cross the tracks despite a closed railway crossing in the Maninagar area on Saturday evening, police said.

The incident took place at 6:45 pm when the crossing had been shut due to an approaching train. The victim, believed to be around 40 years old, allegedly tried to cross the tracks in a hurry, ignoring warnings from people present at the site, officials said.

He was struck by the oncoming train and died on the spot. The incident was captured on a CCTV camera installed at the railway crossing, they added.

Police from Maninagar police station rushed to the spot upon receiving information. During preliminary investigation, no mobile phone or identity documents were recovered from the deceased.

A case of accidental death has been registered, and efforts are under way to establish the identity of the victim using CCTV footage and missing persons data from nearby police stations, officials said.
