Man arrested for alleged IPL betting through mobile app

The Ghatlodia Police Station has arrested a 27-year-old man for allegedly placing bets on Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket matches through an online application using his mobile phone.
According to police official, the accused was identified as Pashwa Nipulbhai Shah, a resident of Sola.
Police said the accused was apprehended on May 14 around 9.40 pm in front of Arjun Tower in the Ghatlodia area following a tip-off received by a police patrol team.
The officers attached to Ghatlodia Police Station were on night patrol when they received specific information from an informer that a man wearing a blue shirt and cream-coloured trousers was publicly operating cricket betting activities on his mobile phone during the ongoing IPL 20-20 match between Mumbai Indians and Punjab Kings.
Police subsequently reached the spot along with panch witnesses and identified the suspect matching the description provided by the informer.
During the search, police allegedly found a mobile phone in Shah’s possession. Upon examining the device, officers found an online betting link allegedly connected to a website identified as ‘Cricplus.live’.
According to the FIR, an account under the ID name ‘SpidyRock’ was active on the application, with an online balance of ₹2,307.75 visible at the time of checking.
Police also recovered a Jio SIM card from the handset. The seized mobile phone, valued at ₹15,000, has been taken into custody as part of the investigation.
Shah allegedly admitted to placing money-based bets on cricket matches through the application on his mobile phone.
A case has been registered against the accused under Section of the Gujarat Gambling Act for alleged illegal gambling activities. Police said further investigation is underway to identify others possibly linked to the betting operation.
