Major fire at Bapunagar eyewear case factory causes estimated ₹5 crore loss, no casualties reported

A major fire broke out at a plastic manufacturing unit in Ahmedabad’s Bapunagar area on Sunday morning, causing extensive damage to machinery, raw materials and finished goods, with losses estimated at ₹5 crore to ₹6 crore, officials said.

According to fire department officials, the blaze was reported at around 8 am at premises numbered 236, Laliwala Estate, Lalinagar Road, Bhaktinagar, Bapunagar. The factory, owned by Nilay J Bhuva, manufactures plastic cases and covers for spectacles through injection moulding.

Officials said a large quantity of plastic spectacle cases, polypropylene granules, machinery, electrical wiring and other materials were gutted in the fire.

While the exact cause of the blaze remains unknown, authorities said no casualties or injuries were reported in the incident.

The total value of goods and materials at risk inside the factory has been estimated at around ₹15 crore to ₹16 crore, while preliminary estimates place the value of the damaged property and stock at ₹ 5 crore to ₹ 6 crore. Officials confirmed that the premises were insured.

A substantial firefighting operation was launched to contain the blaze, with multiple fire tenders and support vehicles pressed into service, including eight Gajaraj fire tenders, five Bolero units, two Yoddha vehicles and one Gomtipur mini fire tender.

Senior fire officials, including the Chief Fire Officer, Additional Chief Fire Officers, Deputy Chief Fire Officer, Divisional Fire Officers and Station Officers, supervised the operation at the site.

Police officials were also present at the spot as firefighting and cooling operations continued.

An investigation has been initiated to determine the cause of the fire.
