Light to heavy rainfall across state: Gujarat’s orange alert to continue till June 1
A thunderstorm swept several districts of Gujarat including Ahmedabad, Vadodara, and Gandhinagar on Sunday.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted light to heavy rainfall until June 1. An orange alert has been issued for six districts in Saurashtra and north Gujarat due to the possibility of heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms. Over the next six days, most areas in the state are expected to experience winds blowing at 40–50 km/h along with thunderstorms and rain.
According to the IMD, an orange alert has been issued for Surendranagar, Botad, Rajkot, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Sabarkantha, Aravalli, Mahisagar, Dahod, Panchmahal, Chhotaudepur, Narmada, Tapi, Dang, Navsari, and Valsad due to winds of 40–60 km/h and moderate rain with thunderstorms on Monday. The rest of the districts may also experience strong winds and possible rainfall. On Tuesday, rain and thunderstorms with wind speeds of 40–50 km/h are expected across the state.
On Wednesday, a yellow alert was issued for Amreli, Bhavnagar, Sabarkantha, Aravalli, Mahisagar, and Dahod districts due to heavy rain. A yellow alert is issued for Chhotaudepur, Dahod, Mahisagar, Aravalli, Amreli, and Bhavnagar on Thursday.
Forecast from May 30 to June 1
As per the IMD, the windy and rainy conditions will persist for the next six days. From May 30 to June 1, light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms is expected in Junagadh, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Gir Somnath, Vadodara, Chhotaudepur, Bharuch, Narmada, Panchmahal, Dahod, Surat, Tapi, Dang, Navsari, and Valsad.
Due to the formation of a low-pressure area in the Arabian Sea, strong winds, thunderstorms, and rainfall are occurring in the state. In response to the storm-like conditions, the Gujarat government has instructed district administrations in the alerted districts to remain vigilant and maintain active 24x7 control rooms. Given the strong and high waves in the sea, fishermen have been advised not to venture out to sea.
