Know your Neta: Lok Sabha report card of Gujarat MPs

26 MPs of Gujarat recorded an average attendance of 79% in the Parliament, with an average of 206 questions asked by them in the 17th Lok Sabha term from 2019-2024.

Attendance of Gujarat MPs

Gujarat MPs had an average attendance of 79%, which was lower than that of the country’s average, 87%. Here, Panchmahal MP Ratansinh Rathore recorded the highest attendance of 96%.

Other Gujarat MPs with more than 90% of attendance were Geeta Rathwa of Chhotaudepur, Mahendra Munjpara of Surendranagar, Sharda Patel of Mehsana, Parbat Patel of Banaskantha, Mitesh Patel of Anand, and Kirit Solanki from Ahmedabad (west).

Involvement in Parliament

When it comes to questioning, Gujarat MPs had less questions than the average of the country.

Gujarat MPs asked an average of 206 questions while the national average was 210. Naran Kachdia of Amreli asked the maximum 471 questions while Valsad’s KC Patel did not ask any question during the whole Lok Sabha term.

In fact, only five Gujarat MPs were accountable for more than 300 questions. 

In debates, the average of Gujarat MPs for participating in the debates was 29.9% while the national average stood at 46.7%.

Compared to 16th Lok Sabha term from 2014-2019, the average attendance of Gujarat MPs have increased from 84% to 87%. The questioning, however, went down from 285 to 206. The participation in debate went considerably down from 41.1 to 29.9.
