Housekeeper booked for allegedly stealing gold ornaments from Bodakdev bungalow in Ahmedabad

The Bodakdev police have registered a theft case against a housekeeper accused of stealing gold ornaments worth ₹18,000 from a bungalow on SG Highway.
According to the complaint filed by Aanal Niren Gawarwala, 52, a resident of Rudraksha Bungalow behind Rajpath Club in Bodakdev, the accused has been identified as Mahendra Mukeshji Baria, a native of Dungarpur district in Rajasthan, who had been employed as a domestic helper at the residence since April 2 this year.
Police said the complainant lives with her husband, Niren Dineshbhai Gawarwala, a recruitment officer with a private company, and their daughter Priyansi.
In her complaint, Gawarwala stated that she had hired Mahendra through an agent identified as Lokeshbhai Labana for household work.
According to police, the complainant and her husband had travelled to Dehradun for a social function on April 3, while their daughter remained at home. They returned on April 5 and found that the housekeeper was missing.
When questioned, the family’s driver, Hareshbhai, allegedly informed them that Mahendra had left the house on April 4 around 1 pm saying he was going to purchase a mobile charger, but never returned.
The matter came to light on April 6 when the complainant entered the prayer room to perform rituals and discovered that a 10-gram gold coin bearing the image of Goddess Lakshmi and an 8-gram gold pendant carrying the image of Lord Tirupati Balaji were missing.
The complainant told police that both items had been gifted to her by her father-in-law around two decades ago. The gold coin was estimated to be worth ₹10,000, while the pendant was valued around ₹8,000.
Following inquiries to ascertain the accused’s complete identity and address, the complainant approached the Bodakdev Police Station and lodged a formal complaint.
Police have registered a case of theft against the accused and initiated further investigation.
