Heavy Rain Pounds Saurashtra, North Gujarat; Wankaner Records Over 3 Inches in Two Hours

Fresh monsoon showers intensified across Gujarat on Friday afternoon, with Saurashtra and North Gujarat receiving the heaviest rainfall between 2 pm and 4 pm, according to the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC). More than 130 talukas recorded rainfall during the two-hour spell, prompting authorities to remain on alert for waterlogging and localised flooding.

Wankaner records highest rainfall

Wankaner in Morbi district emerged as the wettest taluka in the state, recording 80 mm (3.15 inches) of rainfall during the two-hour period.

Other areas receiving significant rainfall included:

Santalpur (Patan): 62 mm (2.44 inches)

Thangadh (Surendranagar): 60 mm (2.36 inches)

Dantiwada (Banaskantha): 60 mm (2.36 inches)

Moderate rainfall in central Gujarat

Several parts of central Gujarat also witnessed moderate to heavy showers.

Among the notable rainfall figures:

Nadiad (Kheda): 40 mm (1.57 inches)

Chotila (Surendranagar): 27 mm (1.06 inches)

Sojitra (Anand): 23 mm (0.91 inches)

Tarapur (Anand): 23 mm (0.91 inches)

Unjha (Mahesana): 22 mm (0.87 inches)

Rainfall reported in over 130 talukas

The SEOC said rainfall was recorded in more than 130 talukas across districts including Morbi, Patan, Banaskantha, Surendranagar, Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Kachchh, Bhavnagar, Surat, Kheda, Anand and Mahesana during the afternoon monitoring period.

Authorities on alert

Emergency response teams remain on standby in districts receiving heavy rainfall to tackle possible waterlogging and localised flooding, particularly in low-lying urban and rural areas.

The administration has advised residents to monitor official weather updates and exercise caution as monsoon activity continues across Gujarat.
