Gujarat University police arrest three in ₹26 lakh jewellery theft case, recover stolen valuables from Delhi

The Gujarat University police have arrested three persons, including a domestic worker, in connection with a major house theft case involving stolen gold and silver jewellery worth nearly ₹26 lakh.
Police said the accused allegedly executed the theft after the domestic worker employed at the complainant’s residence conspired with two associates from Delhi. The stolen valuables were later traced to Faridabad.
According to the police, the offence was registered at Gujarat University Police Station under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Investigators said the prime accused, identified as Shankar Agnaprasad, 21, had been working as a servant at the complainant’s house. Police alleged that Shankar hatched a conspiracy with two of his acquaintances from Delhi, Akash Thakur, 23, and Ayaz Khan, 20, to commit theft at the residence.
According to police, the accused struck on May 4, 2026, when the complainant and family members were away from home. During the burglary, the complainant’s father reportedly arrived at the residence unexpectedly, leading to a confrontation.
Police said two of the accused, Shankar and Akash, were caught at the scene, while Ayaz managed to flee. During the attempted apprehension, Akash allegedly attacked and injured the complainant’s driver before escaping, police added.
During subsequent interrogation, Shankar allegedly confessed that he had also stolen additional jewellery from the same house a few days earlier. Police said he had couriered the valuables to an associate named Tanveer in Faridabad through a private courier service.
Acting on the information, Gujarat University police informed senior officers and immediately dispatched a police team to Delhi and Faridabad. The team successfully traced and recovered the parcel containing the stolen ornaments.
Police said the recovered property included 36 tolas of gold jewellery worth ₹25.57 lakh, 67 grams of silver jewellery valued at ₹37,000, and imitation jewellery worth ₹2,500, taking the total recovery to approximately ₹25.97 lakh.
