Gujarat MLAs get luxurious upgrade: ₹220 crore lavish flats ready in Gandhinagar

Following the recent cabinet reshuffle, preparations are underway to inaugurate new residential complexes for Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) in Gujarat’s capital city Gandhinagar.
Built at a cost of ₹220 crore, these modern and luxurious flats are ready for occupation. The new complex is likely to be inaugurated on October 23 by Union Home Minister Amit Shah. After Diwali, MLAs are expected to move into their new homes — a festive bonus of sorts for the legislators.
The existing MLA quarters in Gandhinagar had become dilapidated, prompting the government to construct new, luxury flats in Sector 17. A total of 12 towers, each nine storeys high, have been built, housing 216 flats in all.
Among these, 126 luxury flats have been specifically designed for MLAs, each featuring two master bedrooms, a living room, two additional bedrooms, a kitchen, dining area, waiting area, and a small office space. Every flat also includes a separate servant’s room.
Inside these high-end flats, each master room, living room, and bedroom will have air conditioning and a 43-inch LED TV with a set-top box connection. Additional facilities include a refrigerator, gas geyser, and electric geyser.
The new residential complex also includes:
- Two landscaped gardens
- A play area
- An auditorium
- A health club
- A canteen
Each nine-storey building will have two elevators, and there will be four entry and exit gates for smooth access.
Spread over 28,576 square metres, each flat covers about 204 square meters of space and includes:
- 3 bedrooms
- Kitchen
- Dining area
- Office room
- Waiting room
- Balcony
- Dressing room
- 3 attached bathrooms and toilets
- 1 common bathroom and toilet
- 1 servant’s room
The complex also offers gardens, a multipurpose hall, community hall, and swimming pool. Every flat will have three split air-conditioners, LED TVs in the living room and bedrooms, a refrigerator, and an air conditioning plant. Bathrooms will have electric geysers for hot water.
Rent cheaper than a milk packet
Despite all these five-star perks, the government will charge MLAs only ₹37.50 per month in rent — that’s just ₹1.25 a day, cheaper than the price of a packet of milk.
Gujarat’s lawmakers are set to enjoy luxury living at a symbolic rent, as part of a massive modernisation project in the state capital.
