Rajkot man arrested for killing mother's live-in partner in Jetpur

A 35-year-old man was allegedly stabbed to death in Rajkot's Jetpur after the son of his mother's live-in partner travelled from Rajkot to carry out the attack. Police said the accused had long opposed his mother's Maitri Karar (live-in) relationship with the victim.

The incident took place in Valmiki Vas near Ambar Cinema in Kankiya Plot, where the deceased, Kamlesh Arvindbhai Vaghela (35), worked as a daily wage labourer and lived with Nitaben Vaghela under a mutual live-in arrangement following the death of her husband.

According to police, Nitaben's son, Jayant alias Juthan Kalubhai Vaghela, was unhappy with the relationship and had moved to Rajkot. Investigators believe he travelled to Jetpur with a knife and waited for Kamlesh to step out of his house before launching the attack.

Victim attacked while buying buttermilk

Police said Kamlesh had stepped out to buy buttermilk during lunch when Jayant allegedly intercepted him and stabbed him multiple times in the chest, abdomen and other parts of the body.

Kamlesh was rushed to hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

Police arrest accused within hours

Based on a complaint filed by the victim's younger brother, Kapil Arvindbhai Vaghela, the Jetpur City Police registered a murder case and arrested the accused within hours of the incident.

Police are also probing the role of an unidentified man seen with the accused in CCTV footage. Investigators are examining whether he helped plan the murder or conducted reconnaissance before the attack.

CCTV captures chilling attack

The CCTV footage, which has gone viral on social media, reportedly shows the injured victim pleading for help and telling the attacker, "I have not done anything wrong to anyone."

Police said the accused allegedly responded by confronting Kamlesh over his relationship with his mother before continuing the assault.

The investigation is ongoing to determine whether anyone else was involved in the murder.
