Pragnesh Patel's bail plea rejected
The Ahmedabad sessions court today rejected the bail plea filed by the father of the accused Tathya, Pragnesh Patel. The state govt had strongly advocated for the rejection of Pragnesh's bail application.
The Gujarat government on Aug 5 expressed its strong opposition over the bail application made by Pragnesh Patel, father of Tathya Patel, the accused of the July 20 ISKCON bridge accident that claimed nine innocent lives.
The state gov stated that Pragnesh gave the wrong encouragement to his son Tathya. Time and again, Pragnesh has covered up his son’s actions, and as a result, Tathya was encouraged to commit such a heinous crime. The government has therefore made a strong stand that the accused Pragnesh is equally responsible for Tathya's crime, so his bail should be rejected by the court.
Tathya follows father Pragnesh Patel’s footsteps in criminal activities
The accused, Pragnesh Patel, himself has a criminal history that is serious enough to not be overlooked. Ten cases for multiple offences have been registered against him.
The state govt argues that the accused of such serious crimes cannot be granted bail under any circumstances. The sessions court in Ahmedabad’s Mirzapur adjourned the verdict on Pragnesh Patel's bail application on Aug 9.
Pragnesh evaded his son from ISKCON bridge; abused-threatened enraged crowd
The public prosecutor from the state govt strongly opposed the bail application of Tathya’s father, Pragnesh, in the ISKCON bridge accident case. The prosecutor also stated in court that on the day of the accident, Pragnesh had rushed to save his son, the perpetrator of the accident.
He further added that Pragnesh threatened and abused the crowd, which was outraged at Tathya and later escaped the scene with him. Pragnesh has also not shown any moral duty to surrender or to appear before the police. The prosecutor stated that Pragnesh himself has failed in his duty as a father as he made settlements and covered up Tathya’s crimes whenever he committed them.
Govt advocates strongly against Pragnesh Patel’s bail
Pragnesh Patel holds a list of serious crimes committed in his past, including gang rape, intimidation, abuse, etc. The accused thus has an affiliation with criminal activities and resorts to splashing money at his will, argued the prosecutor.
According to him, if such an accused is granted bail, there is a high possibility of tampering or manipulation of evidence and witnesses involved in the case. It will also send a wrong message to the society if such a history-sheeter is released.
