Gujarat approves ₹330 crore for construction, repair of 108 govt schools

The Gujarat government has approved ₹330 crore for the construction, repair, and infrastructure development of 108 government secondary and higher secondary schools across the state for the financial year 2026-27.

The allocation has been made following budgetary provisions announced earlier for the construction of new school buildings, compound walls and repair works in government and model schools, including those under the Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA).

According to an Education Department resolution, ₹177 crore has been sanctioned for the construction of 69 schools in non-tribal areas, ₹23 crore for compound walls in 76 schools and ₹10 crore for repair works in 14 schools.

In tribal areas, ₹44 crore has been approved for the construction of 17 schools, ₹31.68 crore for compound walls in 32 schools and ₹4.32 crore for repairs in six schools.

In addition, ₹40 crore has been sanctioned under a special component scheme for the construction of 22 schools.

Officials said a total of 108 schools, which were previously functioning from primary school premises or other buildings due to a lack of infrastructure, would now get their own buildings. Construction work is expected to be completed within the next year, following which the schools will shift to the new premises.

Among the 69 schools proposed in non-tribal areas, 14 are located in the Ahmedabad district. The process of land acquisition for these schools had been pending for a long period after approvals were granted by the rural District Education Officer.

Officials said 22 schools in Ahmedabad district had been operating from alternative buildings. Land has now been allotted for 15 of them, while construction approval has been granted for 14 schools.

An expenditure of around ₹3.2 crore per school has been approved for these 14 schools, taking the total allocation for the Ahmedabad district to ₹44.80 crore.
