The Gujarat Subordinate Service Selection Board (GSSSB) has reportedly rejected over 120 candidates who had applied for Police photographer posts, citing ‘non-payment of exam fees’ – even though the candidates claim to have paid the fees online.

According to sources, the issue stems from the applicants’ failure to generate a fee receipt after payment – a step GSSSB deems mandatory for application validation. The recruitment drive, announced on August 28, 2024, included several technical posts under the Directorate of Forensic Science, such as Laboratory Technician, Scientific Assistant, Junior Expert, Senior Expert, Searcher, and Police Photographer. Applications were accepted via the OJAS online portal.

Candidates allege they completed the online payment process, but due to oversight or technical issues, did not generate the official receipt. As a result, the board listed their applications as invalid. Of the 126 applications received for just 5 Police Photographer posts, 122 were rejected on this basis alone.

An official from GSSSB confirmed that the original recruitment notification had clearly stated that failure to generate a receipt would result in rejection. “Many applicants don’t thoroughly read the guidelines. As per policy, if the receipt isn’t generated, the application stands canceled,” the officer stated.

Many candidates are now demanding reconsideration, arguing that digital payment records should be enough as proof of fee submission.

As of now, the board has not announced any plans to review or reinstate the rejected applications.
