The Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation (GSRTC) has undergone a major revamp, as more than 8,000 of its buses are now equipped with integrated vehicle tracking (IVT) and passenger systems.

The installations have been carried out in three phases, with the first covering 2,400 buses, the second covering 2,600, and the third covering 3,300 buses.

With this, facilities like real-time monitoring of the buses enable the corporation to ease up its hectic management.

Through IVT, the safety of the buses and passengers will now be kept in check.

Unauthorised halts, detours, overspeeding, and unmonitored trips through depo or operators will now be tracked.

Additionally, 591 passenger information systems have also been installed at 100 bus stations. A central command control station is also established amongst the 16 divisional command control centres or central offices.

Passengers will also be able to track the trip time and distance through this new integration.

The system also displays the live details of buses on the platforms at the bus stops, while  providing the application users with the bus route, timing, and location.

Since 2015, common issues such as fleet tracking and monitoring, schedule management and monitoring, on-route bus breakdowns, uncontrolled driving habits, management evaluation, and bus unavailability had been impacting the functioning of the department.
