Gold coins, cash worth ₹9 lakh stolen from private hospital chairman’s office in Ahmedabad

Gold coins, silver artefacts and cash collectively valued at around ₹9 lakh were allegedly stolen from the office of the chairman of Kanoria Hospital and Research Centre in Ahmedabad after an unidentified burglar broke into the premises during the early hours of Monday.

A complaint has been lodged by Dr Rajendra Anand (65), Medical Superintendent of Kanoria Hospital and Research Centre, located opposite Mother Dairy in Bhat, against an unidentified accused.

Theft discovered after Chairman’s phone call

According to the complaint, the theft came to light on the morning of June 23 when hospital chairman K K Kanoria, who is currently in Mumbai, called Dr Anand at around 8.30 am and informed him that his office appeared to have been burgled.

Dr Anand immediately reached the hospital, where senior officials, including the finance manager and general manager, inspected the office.

They found that the aluminium-framed glass door of the chairman's office had been broken. Furniture inside the office was ransacked, while a Godrej safe had been forced open and drawers were left scattered.

Gold coins, silver artefacts and cash missing

Hospital officials were informed by the chairman that several valuable items kept in the office were missing.

The stolen property reportedly includes:

20 gold coins weighing approximately 8 grams each

A gold idol of Lord Hanuman

Multiple silver coins of different weights

Four silver coins weighing around 400 grams each

A silver Buddha figurine

A silver guitar-shaped decorative item

Cash amounting to ₹2 lakh

Police estimate the total value of the stolen property at approximately ₹9 lakh, including:

₹6 lakh worth of gold items

₹1 lakh worth of silver artefacts

₹2 lakh in cash

Police said the chairman is currently unwell and staying in Mumbai. Since he personally maintained the valuables, the exact inventory and valuation will be verified after his return to Ahmedabad, expected in about a week.

Investigators said the list of stolen items may be updated based on further verification.

CCTV footage captures suspect

Hospital authorities reviewed CCTV footage from the premises and allegedly spotted a suspicious individual entering the area between 2.30 am and 3.15 am on June 23.

The footage reportedly shows a man wearing a white shirt and covering part of his face with a cloth. He was seen moving around the chairman's office shortly before the alleged theft took place.

Police launch investigation

Based on the complaint and preliminary evidence, police have registered a case of house-breaking and theft against an unidentified person.

Investigators are examining CCTV footage, collecting forensic evidence and analysing possible entry and exit routes used by the suspect.
