Family on motorcycle injured after truck drags bike for 70 metres near Juhapura crossroads

A family travelling on a motorcycle was seriously injured after a truck allegedly rammed into their vehicle and dragged it for nearly 70 metres near the Juhapura crossroads in Ahmedabad on Monday, police said.

The accident, which occurred within the Traffic ‘M’ Division jurisdiction, triggered panic in the area and drew a large crowd to the spot. CCTV footage of the incident has also surfaced, showing the impact and the subsequent dragging of the motorcycle by the truck.

According to preliminary information, the truck driver allegedly knocked down the motorcycle carrying members of a family near the busy junction close to Juhapura crossroads. Witnesses claimed that after the collision, the truck continued moving while dragging the damaged motorcycle along the road for a considerable distance.

Local residents alleged that the truck driver appeared to be under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. Eyewitnesses said people at the scene shouted and chased the vehicle before managing to stop the driver.

Following the accident, chaos erupted in the area as passersby and local residents gathered in large numbers. On receiving information about the incident, teams from Vejalpur Police Station rushed to the spot, dispersed the crowd and brought the traffic situation under control.

Residents immediately alerted the 108 Emergency Service, following which the injured motorcycle riders were shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment. Police officials said the exact condition of the injured persons was yet to be officially confirmed.

Locals also pointed to poor road conditions near the accident site, claiming that waterlogging caused by ongoing overbridge construction work on the highway may have contributed to the mishap.

The area has reportedly been witnessing heavy traffic congestion and difficult driving conditions due to infrastructure work currently underway.

Police have begun an investigation into the incident and are examining CCTV footage and eyewitness accounts to determine the exact cause of the accident. Officials are also likely to investigate allegations that the truck driver was intoxicated while operating the vehicle.
