Updated: Mar 10th, 2024

In the suicide case of 32-year-old Dr Vaishali Joshi involving police inspector (PI) BK Khachar, the police have recorded statements of eight people, including the woman who lived with Joshi in the PG (paying guest) in the Shivranjani area, and the staff of the hospital she worked at.

In her statement, Joshi’s roommate mentioned that she was informed about the relationship with the PI.

She told the police that Joshi often talked about her relationship, and that they were together for a long time, and often went out to meet him.

However, the woman mentioned that Joshi had been mentally depressed for the past few days. But, she could not foresee her taking such a step.

Police questioning also revealed that Joshi had mentioned about her relationship with some of the hospital staff.

Previous developments in the case

Previously, Joshi’s mobile phone, diary, and suicide note was sent to the forensic science laboratory (FSL) for further investigation.

The suicide note revealed that Khachar and Joshi had been in a relationship for five years and were having some issues.

Depressed by Khachar’s constant negligence towards her, Joshi committed suicide at the premises of the Gaikwad Haveli police station on Mar 6, accusing  Khachar.

The day Joshi committed suicide coincided with the Police Sports Meet-2024 event, where PI Khachar was present before he fled the programme after hearing about Joshi’s suicide.

Khachar is still on the run, and his phone is switched off. Investigations are underway to find him.
