Dehydrated black ibis rescued in Ahmedabad’s Sola Area amid Heatwave

A black Ibis weakened by dehydration was successfully rescued from Ahmedabad’s Sola area after it was found collapsed on the ground amid the ongoing spell of intense summer heat.
The bird was spotted in a distressed condition, apparently suffering from a lack of water. Upon receiving information about the incident, wildlife rescuers rushed to the spot and carried out a rescue operation.
The Black Ibis was safely recovered and administered preliminary treatment before being shifted to a forest department veterinary facility for further medical care and observation.
Speaking about the incident, Vijay Dabhi said that soaring temperatures and water scarcity were increasingly affecting birds across the city. “Several birds become weak or collapse due to dehydration during the peak summer months. Timely intervention can often save their lives,” he said.
He appealed to citizens to place water bowls and bird feed on terraces, balconies and in open spaces around their homes to help birds cope with the harsh weather conditions.
Wildlife rescuers have reported a rise in cases involving dehydrated and exhausted birds in recent weeks as temperatures continue to remain high across Gujarat. Conservationists have urged residents to contribute to bird welfare by ensuring a regular supply of water and food, particularly during the summer season.
Officials said the rescued Black Ibis is undergoing treatment and its condition is being monitored. Once it recovers fully, the bird is expected to be released back into its natural habitat.
