Covid-19 active cases triple in a week in Gujarat, stand at 717

In the last 24 hours, 170 new Covid-19 cases have been reported in Gujarat, taking the total number of active cases to 717. Among them, only 23 patients are currently hospitalised, while 694 are under home isolation. Additionally, 68 patients have recovered in the last 24 hours, and no deaths have been reported.

694 patients receiving treatment at home

On May 29, Gujarat had 223 active Covid-19 cases. This means active cases have increased by more than 300% in just one week. According to details shared by the Health Department, of the 717 active cases, 694 patients are recovering at home. Patients in home isolation are advised to monitor their health and immediately contact the nearest health center if they experience difficulty in breathing or chest pain.

Genome sequencing of Covid-positive patients is being conducted at GBRC (Gujarat Biotechnology Research Centre) in Gandhinagar, where variants like JN.1, LF.7, LF.7.9, and XFG have been predominantly found.

According to the Health Department, such spikes occur every 6–8 months, so there is no need to panic. Currently, Kerala leads the country with the highest number of active cases at 1,679, followed by Gujarat, and West Bengal in third place with 596 cases.

As of 11 am on Friday, Ahmedabad reported 88 new Covid-19 cases and 34 recoveries. Between May 1 and June 6, Ahmedabad city recorded 559 cases, 183 recoveries, and two deaths. Currently, 374 patients are undergoing treatment in the city.

7 patients admitted at civil hospital

At Civil Hospital, seven Covid-19 patients are currently under treatment. These include a 72-year-old man and an 8-month-old girl in stable condition at Asarwa Civil Hospital. A 24-year-old man is on oxygen support and a 60-year-old woman is on NRBM (Non-Rebreather Mask). A 37-year-old woman was discharged on Friday. Meanwhile, three patients are receiving treatment at Sola Civil Hospital.
