Burglars allegedly broke into a corporate office in the Gota area of Ahmedabad and decamped with cash, cheque books, vehicle documents and original land records after removing an iron locker from the premises.

According to Sola High Court police, the theft took place at Arise Corporate House, located in Gota, between the night of April 17 and the early hours of April 18.

Rakesh Kumar Patel, 41, who runs a real-estate business in partnership with family members from the office, told police that staff had shut the premises around 8 pm on April 17. When the office was reopened the following morning, the rear window lock was found broken and furniture inside the office had been ransacked.

Upon inspection, the occupants discovered that a small Godrej iron locker, which had been affixed beneath a wooden office table, had been removed entirely along with the wooden plank to which it was attached.

Police said the stolen locker allegedly contained approximately ₹1.10 lakh in cash, multiple signed cheque books belonging to various individuals and entities, original registration certificates of several vehicles, driving licence and PAN card documents, Aadhaar and voter identification documents, as well as original land sale deeds and other sensitive business papers.

Among the missing documents were original registration certificates of a Toyota Fortuner, BMW, and Maruti Swift, besides multiple original PAN cards of companies and cooperative entities linked to the complainant’s business operations.

The complainant told police that he approached the station after verifying the missing items and compiling details of the stolen documents.

A case of housebreaking and theft has been registered against an unidentified accused. Police said CCTV footage from the area is being examined and further investigation is under way.
