AMC asks employees to carpool, use public transport to save fuel following PM Modi’s appeal

In view of PM Modi’s appeal to save fuel, the Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has issued fresh instructions to all zonal offices, department heads, officers, and employees to ensure minimum use of petrol and diesel, terming them as national resources.
In a circular issued by the Municipal Commissioner on May 14, 2026, AMC directed employees working in the same municipal office compound or nearby municipal offices to adopt carpooling arrangements while commuting to and from work.
The circular stated that employees using cars for office travel should coordinate with colleagues residing nearby and travel together in order to reduce fuel consumption.
Officials undertaking field visits have also been instructed to opt for carpooling or two-wheeler sharing along with fellow officers and employees while travelling for inspections and official duties.
Similarly, employees using two-wheelers for commuting have been advised to arrange vehicle-sharing with colleagues living in nearby localities if they are working in the same office premises or nearby municipal offices.
AMC further highlighted that around 1,350 AMTS and BRTS buses are currently operational in the city, while another 1,405 new buses will be added in the near future. The civic body urged employees to make maximum use of public transport facilities, including AMTS, BRTS, and Metro services.
