Sindhu Bhavan Road (SBR) of Ahmedabad, known for its opulence, is increasingly becoming a death trap for city-dwellers, with multiple accidents taking place on the boulevard-like stretch of asphalt, eclipsing the charm it aspires to possess.

The city traffic police and Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC), have now joined hands to slow the accidents down, by putting up rumbler strips at two points on the road, to control speeding vehicles.

Rumbler strips, as the name suggests, make the drivers aware by audible rumbling and vibrations to the vehicle, about the road ahead.

The strips, put up near the Gotila Garden and the Taj Hotel on SBR, will prove to be a warning for the accident-prone road ahead, and check the speeds they are going at.

Yellow strips have also been installed at the patches where the accidents are most likely to happen.

The road, which has reported frequent complaints of rash driving and stunts between the Pakwan Char Rasta and the Sardar Patel Ring Road, will not make drivers alert with tactile input.

Before this, the city traffic police had conducted a survey and informed the AMC about the issue.

Premal Seth, additional city engineer of AMC’s traffic department said, the yellow stripes have been installed on the road where the accidents are likely to happen. The strips will let the drivers know that there are crossroads and accident-prone zones ahead.
