AMC allocates 102 plots for parking, ramps up pre-monsoon drainage drive

In a major step to tackle growing parking and traffic congestion, the Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has allotted 102 plots across the city to private owners and commercial complexes exclusively for parking purposes. The initiative aims to regulate haphazard parking in busy areas and improve overall traffic management.
Zone-wise distribution includes 18 plots in the North Zone, 6 in South, 21 in East, 12 in West, 12 in South-West, and the highest 33 plots in the North-West Zone. This planned allocation is expected to ease pressure on public roads and enhance civic infrastructure.
Simultaneously, AMC has launched an extensive pre-monsoon action plan to ensure smooth drainage and minimise water-logging during the upcoming monsoon.
Under this drive, the civic body is carrying out large-scale cleaning and monitoring of catch pits and storm water machine holes across all zones.
The city now has a total of 72,586 catch pits, up from 66,580 after the addition of 6,006 new ones. Zone-wise figures stand at North (9,891), South (9,093), East (9,461), Central (6,972), West (15,777), North-West (13,791), and South-West (7,601).
In the first round of cleaning, AMC has successfully completed desilting of 64,013 catch pits.Similarly, the number of storm water machine holes has increased to 26,685 following the construction of 2,681 new units.
The zone-wise availability includes North (2,761), South (2,847), East (4,731), Central (1,882), West (3,267), North-West (7,465), and South-West (3,732).AMC officials have emphasised continuous monitoring, preventive maintenance, and rapid response mechanisms.
Engineer departments, storm water teams, and field staff will remain on high alert during the monsoon to ensure quick disposal of rainwater and prevent water-logging in low-lying areas.
