Ahmedabad youth dies by suicide in Meghaninagar, family alleges harassment by bootlegger

A young man allegedly died by suicide in Ahmedabad’s Meghaninagar area, with his family claiming that sustained harassment by an alleged bootlegger drove him to take the extreme step.

The deceased has been identified as Pruthvisinh Rajput, police said.

According to preliminary information, Rajput allegedly hanged himself at his residence and is said to have recorded a video before his death in which he accused a man identified as Manav of physically assaulting and mentally harassing him.

Family members have alleged that the harassment was linked to the activities of an alleged local bootlegger and claimed that repeated intimidation had left the victim under severe mental distress.

Police said an accidental death case has been registered at Meghaninagar Police Station and further investigation is under way.

Officers are examining the video purportedly recorded by the deceased and verifying the allegations made therein. Statements of family members and other witnesses are also being recorded.
