Ahmedabad SOG busts counterfeit electrical goods racket, seizes fake products worth ₹16.5 lakh

In a matter crackdown on counterfeit electrical goods, the Special Operations Group (SOG) of the Ahmedabad Crime Branch has arrested a 32-year-old trader for allegedly manufacturing and storing duplicate electrical wires, network cables and packaging material bearing the branding of leading companies including RR Kabel Limited, Polycab, and D-Link.
The raid, conducted by the Ahmedabad Crime Branch Special Operations Group, led to the seizure of counterfeit goods and associated materials collectively valued at ₹16.56 lakh.
The arrested accused has been identified as Vikram alias Vicky Shyamlal Purohit (32), a trader residing in Kathwada and originally hailing from Rajasthan’s Jalore district.
According to the police, the accused was found operating from a premises in Adinathnagar, Gokulnagar, Odhav, where he had allegedly stocked and repackaged counterfeit electrical goods under the branding of reputed companies.
Police said the raid resulted in the seizure of:
* 385 bundles of duplicate RR Kabel 1 sq mm wire worth ₹5.39 lakh
* 350 bundles of duplicate RR Kabel 1.5 sq mm wire worth ₹5.25 lakh
* 110 bundles of duplicate RR Kabel 2.5 sq mm wire worth ₹2.20 lakh
* 242 bundles of counterfeit Polycab electrical wire worth ₹2.42 lakh
* 25 boxes of D-Link network cables worth ₹1.25 lakh
* Large quantities of counterfeit packaging material, including printed cardboard boxes, hallmark stickers, labels and plastic bags
* One mobile phone and utility documents linked to the premises
Police said the action followed specific intelligence received from representatives of brand-protection agencies and authorised company officials associated with RR Kabel, who alerted investigators to the suspected sale and storage of duplicate products in the city.
A case has been registered at the DCB Police Station under Sections of the Copyright Act, 1957 for alleged copyright infringement and sale of counterfeit branded goods.
Officials said investigators are now probing the source of the counterfeit material, the scale of distribution, and whether the accused was part of a larger inter-state counterfeit goods network supplying fake electrical products in Gujarat.
Police are also examining whether additional arrests may follow as the investigation progresses.
