Ahmedabad Police nab 21-year-old with 19 stolen mobile phones, crack multiple cases

The Danilimda Police Station has arrested a 21-year-old man and recovered 19 stolen mobile phones along with a scooter, in a breakthrough linked to multiple mobile snatching and theft cases registered across Ahmedabad.

The arrested accused was identified as Tanveer Yusufbhai Sheikh, a resident of Behrampura area of the city.

Acting on specific intelligence inputs, a surveillance squad team attached to Danilimda Police Station intercepted the accused while he was riding a white Suzuki Access scooter.

Police said officers searched the scooter and recovered several suspected stolen mobile phones hidden inside the vehicle’s storage compartment.

During the operation, police seized 19 mobile phones of various brands.

The total value of the recovered mobile phones was estimated at approximately ₹2.57 lakh, while the scooter seized in the case was valued at ₹ 35,000.

Investigators said preliminary inquiry revealed that some of the recovered devices were linked to cases registered at Navrangpura Police Station, Kalupur Police Station and Kagdapith Police Station under provisions related to theft and mobile snatching under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Police registered a case against the accused under Section of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) and initiated further legal proceedings.

Officials said the accused was being questioned to ascertain whether he was part of a larger interstate or local mobile theft network operating in Ahmedabad.

Further investigation is under way to identify additional victims and recover more stolen property.
