Ahmedabad man creates fake instagram accounts of ex-girlfriend to blackmail her, booked

A 21-year-old college student from Ahmedabad has filed a police complaint against her former boyfriend, alleging that he created multiple fake Instagram accounts in her name, shared her private photographs without consent and repeatedly threatened to defame her online after she ended their relationship.

The accused, identified as Sujal Arvindbhai Chandel, a resident of Nava Vadaj, has been booked for allegedly subjecting the complainant to months of cyber harassment, impersonation and criminal intimidation between October 2025 and June 2026.

According to the complaint, the woman, a third-year BSc (IT) student at a university in Gandhinagar, first connected with the accused nearly three years ago after accepting a friend request from an Instagram account named "Mr_sujal_34". Their online friendship later developed into a romantic relationship.

The complainant alleged that during the relationship, the accused gained access to her Instagram login credentials and collected several photographs and videos of them together.

Police said the relationship deteriorated about a year ago due to the accused's allegedly possessive behaviour. After the woman ended the relationship and stopped communicating with him, he allegedly began repeatedly calling her and pressuring her to continue the relationship.

When she refused, the accused allegedly created multiple fake Instagram profiles using her name and photographs. Through these accounts, he is accused of sending her personal photographs to relatives, friends and strangers without her consent.

The complainant told police that she learned about the fake accounts in March this year after family members informed her. She subsequently met the accused at her college to confront him.

During the meeting, he allegedly threatened to upload more private photographs on Instagram and further damage her reputation if she refused to maintain contact or resume the relationship.

She also alleged that the harassment continued even after she informed the accused's mother about his conduct.

The complainant has submitted screenshots of multiple Instagram accounts allegedly created in her name as evidence.

Based on her complaint, police have registered a case against Sujal Arvindbhai Chandel and launched an investigation into allegations of cyber harassment, online impersonation, criminal intimidation and misuse of social media platforms.

Investigators are expected to examine digital evidence, including the fake Instagram accounts, electronic records and call data, as part of the ongoing probe.
