Ahmedabad LCB seizes ₹8.26 lakh worth of MD drugs, MP man arrested in Vasna hotel raid

The Local Crime Branch (LCB) of Zone-7 of Ahmedabad Police, has arrested a 36-year-old man allegedly in possession of commercial quantities of Mephedrone (MD) and seized contraband and other articles collectively valued at ₹8.26 lakh.

The accused, identified as Sabir Jafar Ahmed Sheikh (36), a resident of Indira Colony in Mandsaur, Madhya Pradesh, was apprehended from a private hotel falling under the Vasna police station limits following a specific intelligence input.

Police said an FIR has been registered at the Vasna Police Station under Sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. Investigators are also searching for an alleged associate, Imran Afzal Khan Pathan, also a resident of Mandsaur, who has been named as an absconding accused in the case.

During routine patrolling, officers of the Local Crime Branch, Zone-7, received specific information that a person staying at a hotel in the Vasna area was carrying narcotic substances. After informing senior officers, a joint operation was conducted under the supervision of Vasna Police Inspector R.N. Patel and Local Crime Branch Police Sub-Inspector H.D. Vaghela.

The raid resulted in the seizure of 194.780 grams of Mephedrone (MD), estimated to be worth ₹5.84 lakh. Police also recovered ₹2.37 lakh in cash and a mobile phone, taking the total value of the seized property to ₹8.26 lakh.

Officials said the investigation is now focused on tracing the source of the narcotics, identifying the intended recipients, and establishing the role of the absconding accused. Police are also examining whether the arrested man was part of a wider interstate drug trafficking network operating between Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat.
