After short relief, Gujarat is set to witness scorching heatwave in April-June

Although the city has been witnessing cloudy weather and cooler temperatures for the last five days in Ahmedabad, IMD forecasts a scorching April this time.

On Apr 2, Ahmedabad’s temperature stood at 37.8°C, which was a degree lower than the average. As per the Met department, the city will witness temperatures of 41–43°C on Apr 8-11.

The Ahmedabad traffic police has decided to make about 100 traffic signals inoperational during 12 to 4 p.m. on peak hours in the afternoon. 

Temperatures across Gujarat and India

Maximum temperatures across the state were 37.9°C in Rajkot, 37.8°C in Dang, 37.4°C in Chhotaudepur, Amreli 36.6°C, Gandhinagar 36.5°C, Surat 36.4°C, Bhuj 36.3°C, Vadodara 35.8°C, Bhavnagar 34.8°C, and Kandla 34.4°C on Apr 2.

Moreover, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of an increase in heat waves during April-June, along with extreme heat. A dramatic change in weather due to extreme heat is likely to lead to unseasonal rainfall during this period. 

The IMD has also released the monthly outlook for temperatures and rainfall in 2024.

In India, above-normal number of days with heatwave are likely to occur over most parts of south peninsula, central India, east India, and the plains of northwest India, as per the outlook. 

The director general of the meteorological department said that some parts of east and northeast India will see temperatures slightly below normal in some parts of northwest India. While the minimum temperature is expected to be above normal in most parts of the country,

Minimum temperatures are likely to be higher than normal in the northwest and east.
