Ahmedabad hits scorching highs of 40°C, yellow alert in two cities

Ahead of the peak summer month in May, Ahmedabad has already sizzled with mercury rising over 40°C today.

The lowest night temperature on Mar 28 in Ahmedabad was recorded at 26.2°C, which is 4.3°C higher than normal. 

Today, the average maximum temperature rose by around 2°C compared to normal, reaching 40°C.

According to the Indian Meteorological Department’s (IMD) forecast, Ahmedabad’s temperature will remain around 41°C during the day today, 40°C on Mar 30, and around 39°C between Mar 31 and Apr 2.

The maximum temperature crossed 38°C in 10 cities today, with the highest heat recorded in Amreli at 40.8°C.

Cities with over 38°C mercury today include Rajkot at 39.8°C, Surendranagar at 40°C, Vadodara at 39.6°C, Gandhinagar at 39.6°C, Bhuj at 39.2°C, Chhotaudepur at 39.2°C, and Deesa at 39.1°C.

The met department has issued a yellow alert in Banaskantha and Anand today. The IMD said, “A warm atmosphere at night is likely in Banaskantha and Anand even. The average maximum temperature in the state for the next five days is unlikely to change much.”

Due to the scorching heat, Ahmedabad’s usual bustling streets have been witnessing a curfew-like noons.
