A rape accused hiding in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh, impersonating a priest has been apprehended by the cybercrime branch of Ahmedabad.

The story stems from a case where the accused, Yogesh Gupta, raped a woman involved in an affidavit scandal allegedly defaming IPS officer Ashish Bhatia.

Considering the gravity of the case, the investigation was allotted to the women’s crime branch and anti-terrorism squad (ATS). However, Gupta escaped the police and went absconding during the investigation.

Later, the investigation, transferred to Ahmedabad police’s cybercrime unit, revealed the crime occurred at Chandkheda’s Sangath Bungalow.

The survivor’s affidavit was taken, and names of a few  top bureaucrats surfaced.

On the other hand, to nab the accused Gupta, cybercrime Ahmedabad gathered technical surveillance and human intelligence.

After many efforts, Gupta was traced to Mathura. Taking swift action, the cybercrime branch in Ahmedabad nabbed the accused.

Gupta evaded capture all this time after disguising himself and continuously changing cities.

As the prime suspect in the case has been apprehended, many facts about the affidavit are likely to be revealed. The kingpin, Gupta, was allegedly involved in a network of many top officials in Ahmedabad.
